Six-Day Long MCT-IV for IFS Officers commenced at IIFM

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM), Bhopal, in collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun, commenced a week-long Mid-Career Training (MCT-IV) “Management Module” on Monday, 22 July 2024. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Shri Aseem Shrivastava, PCCF & HoFF, Madhya Pradesh; Guest of Honor Shri RSC Jairaj, IFS (Retd.); Director IIFM Dr. K. Ravichandran; Course Director (IGNFA) Dr. M. Sudharkar; Dean IIFM Dr. Manmohan Yadav; Chairperson (MDP) IIFM Dr CP Kala. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Anupama Singh, Programme Director, IIFM.

In his inaugural address, Shri Shrivastava highlighted the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department’s achievements, including successful forest conservation plans, effective forest fire control, and village relocation initiatives. He praised the development of the “Van Suvidha App” and the “Digital Map” of forest areas. He further emphasized the value of the MCT program, stating, “This training not only enhances technical knowledge but also offers a platform to engage with officers from various states. Actively participate in discussions, share operational policies, and strive to integrate the best practices into your own state’s policies.” Addressing the officers, Shri Jairaj urged them to focus on analyzing the current forestry scenarios, particularly emphasizing the importance of food-based wood and the valuation aspects of forests.

Emphasizing the need for the Mid-Career Training programme the director of IIFM, Dr K. Ravichandran stated “As foresters, we are the custodians of 24% of the land area of the country and IIFM has been given this mandate to sensitize the custodians. IIFM has embarked on this mission of sensitizing the catering to the needs of the sector and stakeholders and planned to organize various capacity building and training programmes this year apart from the MCT and PSUC Programme.”

Following the inauguration, the first day of the programme featured insightful lectures on – “Leadership” by Prof. P.D. Jose from IIM Bangalore, Competency-Based Personnel Management – Creation of Enabling Environment by Prof. Rekha Singhal, Dean, Sri Sri University and Barriers in Communication by Shri AK Dharni, Former PCCF Kerala Forest Department.

This week-long programme features session from distinguished experts, covering vital topics such as Emotional Intelligence and Team Building; Public Finance Management Systems; Financial Management – Budgeting & planning; Mission LiFE; Science of Positivity; Happiness for leaders; Stress Management and Positive Thinking; Strategic and Scenario Planning; Good Governance and Human Values; Digital Technologies & Resource Management and Finance Management. As an integral part of this training programme, the participants will also embark on an exposure visit to the state’s World Heritage sites including Bhimbetika, Udaygiri and the IGRMS-National Museum of Mankind.
