Appeal by Maharashtra Sikh Association to Boycott and Ban the Film “Emergency” by Kangana Ranaut for Derogatory Representation of Sikhs

Mumbai. The Maharashtra Sikh Association (MSA) has been alerted to disturbing reports regarding the upcoming film “Emergency,” directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut. It has been brought to our attention that the film contains content that is deeply offensive and derogatory towards the Sikh community. The portrayal of Sikh characters and the misrepresentation of historical events within the film is not only inaccurate but deeply hurtful to the sentiments of Sikhs across the world. The Sikh community has a rich history of upholding values such as justice, equality, and truth. Any attempt to distort this history or disrespect our culture is an affront not only to the Sikh community but to the principles of truth and respect that we all cherish. The Maharashtra Sikh Association strongly appeals to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to immediately review and reconsider the release of “Emergency.”** We urge the board to ensure that films with content that distorts historical facts and promotes negative stereotypes do not receive certification.Additionally, we call on the Sikh community in Maharashtra and across the nation, along with all individuals who stand for justice and truth, to **boycott this film**. We must not support any platform or medium that disseminates harmful content against our faith. While we respect freedom of expression, it is imperative that this freedom is exercised with responsibility, especially when dealing with sensitive historical and religious subjects. Filmmakers have a duty to approach such subjects with care and integrity, ensuring that their work does not cause harm or incite negative sentiments. If the authorities do not take action, the Maharashtra Sikh Association will explore all legal avenues to protect the dignity of our community and ensure that such content is not allowed to cause harm or division. We call on all Sikh organizations, community leaders, and members to stand united with us in this appeal. Let us together send a clear message that the Sikh community will not tolerate any attempt to defame our faith or misrepresent our history.
