Inauguration of Live Interpretation Services for the Deaf Community in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, 29 January 2025 — Mr. Ram Rao Bhosle, Commissioner of the Directorate of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, proudly inaugurated SignAble’s Live Interpretation Services today at 12:00 PM at the Directorate office. This landmark initiative aims to provide accessible communication support for the deaf community in Madhya Pradesh.
Starting from 1 February 2025, the live interpretation service will be available from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, at key public service sectors, including police stations, district courts, social justice offices, and hospitals across Madhya Pradesh. Deaf individuals can connect with interpreters by simply scanning QR codes available at these locations.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including:
• Mrs. Neetu Singh Thakur, Additional DCP (HQ) Bhopal
• Mr. Abhay Singh, District Legal Aid Officer, Bhopal District Court
• Mr. Rajesh Patel, Representative from the Department of Women and Child Development
As a gesture of appreciation, the teams from Deaf Can Foundation and SignAble Communications presented the Commissioner with a special watch featuring numbers in sign language. This symbolic gift recognized the Commissioner’s exceptional dedication and efforts in championing accessibility for the deaf community.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude for the partnership and praised Priti Soni, General Secretary of Deaf Can Foundation, for her relentless efforts. “Priti Soni’s persistent advocacy with the Ministry of Social Justice has made this significant initiative possible, fostering inclusive opportunities for the deaf community,” he stated.
This groundbreaking step marks the first time Madhya Pradesh has implemented formal accessible services for the deaf community and reaffirms the government’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all.
