INDIAN ARMY CONDUCTS FLOOD RELIEF EXERCISE AT UPPER LAKE

Indian Army is not just safe guarding our country’s borders but are also at the fore front disaster management and rescue operations during natural calamities. Preparing for the ame, Exercise Baadhvyavstha, a yearly exercise (lecture-cum-demonstration) under the aegis of Paschim Madhya Pradesh Sub Area was conducted on 26 Jun 2024 by units of Sudarshan Chakra Corps at Watermanship Training Centre (Sailing Node), Upper Lake, Khanugaon, Bhopal to practice various aspects of Flood Relief Operations in Madhya Pradesh. Exercise was attended by representatives of Engineer Regiment Task Forces and Army columns which are employed in the entire State during flood relief operations as part of Aid to Civil Authority. The event was also attended by various representatives from concerned civil agencies/ departments like SDERF (State Disaster Emergency Relief Force), NDRF, DMI (Disaster Management Institute) and State Relief Commissioner Office also showcased their capabilities in providing timely rescue and relief to victims of floods.

The exercise included a lecture on planning, preparation, requisition, liaison with civil administration, deployment of relief columns and actions to be carried out during relief/ rescue operations and post conduct of operations. Further, as part of the exercise s live demonstration on flood relief and rescue operations was carried out by Army Engineer Task Force, followed by and equipment display incorporating all stores and equipment employed by various stake holders during such relief operations.

GOC, Paschim Madhya Pradesh Sub Area Major Gen Sumit Kabthiyal addressed all stake holders present during the exercise and conveyed his appreciation on the preparation and coordination carried out, resulting and complete synergy between the Army, State Adm and SDERF teams. He further stressed on the need for continuous training at Watermanship Training Centre which provides a near ideal setting for flood relief operation which could be exploited to ensure that lives of affected persons are saved while ensuring own safety. It was also decided that a ground training and interaction of District Level Officers and youth training will also be conducted/ facilitated by the Army at the Watermanship Node.
