Raja Bhoj Multiclass Sailing Championship Kicks Off at Upper Lake, Bhopal
Bhopal, 16 September . The prestigious *Raja Bhoj Multiclass Sailing Championship* was officially inaugurated today at the Upper Lake, Bhopal, marking the beginning of five days of thrilling competition on the waters. Organized jointly by the EME Sailing Association under the aegis of Sudarshan Chakra Corps and the National Sailing School, Bhopal, the championship has drawn over 100 sailors from 14 clubs across India.
The opening ceremony was graced by the *Honourable Minister for Sports and Youth Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh, Shri Vishvas Kailash Sarang* who formally inaugurated the event in the presence of Maj Gen Sumit Kabhtiyal, General Officer Commanding, Paschim Madhya Pradesh Sub Area. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized the commitment of the state government to promote water sports and position Bhopal as a leading hub for sailing in the country, and thanked the Indian Army for such bringing such a premier event back to Bhopal.
Speaking on the occasion, **Major General Soma Pillai (Retd.)** said, *“This championship is not just a sporting event but a tribute to the enduring legacy of Raja Bhoj, whose vision and courage continue to inspire future generations. Sailing, much like his philosophy, teaches resilience, strategy, and harmony with nature.”*
The championship will see sailors testing their skills in multiple categories, including *ILCA, International 420, iQFoil, Techno 293, Optimist, and 29er classes*. With races scheduled over the next five days, participants will compete in disciplines that demand precision in navigation, tactical awareness, and adaptability to changing winds.
The event has already generated excitement among participants, families, and sports enthusiasts, marking yet another step forward in bringing global recognition to Madhya Pradesh’s vibrant sporting landscape.
