Mumbai, 14 October. There is a wave of excitement and happiness among the Sikh community of Maharashtra with the recent developments reflecting newfound inclusivity within the state’s diaspora.
“The Government of Maharashtra has acceded to several of the community’s key demands, formally announcing their successful fulfillment. Their leadership has united the community, inspiring everyone to work together toward a common goal. This significant achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support and collective efforts of the Sikh Sangat, Gurudwara Committees, Sewak Jathas, and volunteers. Their tireless Seva and dedication have brought us to this moment of celebration.” said Shri Bal Malkit Singh, newly appointed Chairman of Punjabi Sahitya Academy, Maharashtra State.
In a momentous development, Shri Bal Malkit Singh has been appointed as the Chairman of the newly constituted Punjabi Sahitya Academy, Maharashtra, marking a new chapter in the promotion of Punjabi literature and culture. Additionally, Shri Charandeep Singh (Happy Singh) has been selected to represent the community in the Maharashtra State Minorities Development Commission.
Key Demands Fulfilled-
1) Formation of an 11-member Sikh Representation Committee approved by the Maharashtra Government.
2) Sikh representation in the Maharashtra State Minorities Commission.
3) Establishment of the Punjabi Sahitya Academy in Maharashtra.
11 member Sikh Representation Committee constitutes Sh Jaspal Singh Siddhu, Shri Gurmeet Singh Rattu, Shri Gurmeet Singh Kokkhar, Shri Ranjit SIngh Gill, Shri Amarjit Singh Kunjiwale, Shri Gurmukh Singh Sandhu. Shri Balbir Singh Taak, Shri Harpreet Singh Pallah, Shri Sarabjeet SIngh Saini, Shri Charandeep Singh, Shri Bhupinder SIngh Anand, and Shri Rameshwar Naik.
Further progress has been made on other key demands. Shri Devendra Fadnavis Ji has issued recommendation letters to relevant authorities to expedite their resolution:
1) Vande Bharat train connectivity to Nanded.
2) Resolution of the Punjab Bhawan plot in Vashi.
3) Improved train connectivity from Panvel to North India.
4) Land allotment for cultural and religious programs in Ulwe, Navi Mumbai.
The Sikh community of Maharashtra extends heartfelt appreciation to the Gurudwara Committees, Sewak Jathas, and volunteers for their efforts in organizing the 29th September Samagam, which played a pivotal role in securing these victories.Looking ahead, the 11-member Sikh Representation Committee and the Punjabi Sahitya Academy will continue to focus on addressing additional demands. These include the resolution of the Takht Nanded Board issues and the establishment of educational and healthcare institutions for the benefit of the community.
