NIFT Bhopal Marks National Handloom Day 2026 with Vibrant Celebration
The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bhopal, proudly celebrated National Handloom Day 2026 with a vibrant programme that honored India’s rich textile heritage and the artisans who sustain it.

The event commenced at 4:00 PM with a warm welcome by the Cluster Initiative Coordinator (CIC). The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Archana Jain, Director of Jinshakh Enterprises, who spoke on “My Country, My Heritage”. She emphasized the importance of giving artisans their due recognition and urged Fashion Design students to study each craft deeply, working towards elevating traditional practices to new heights.
Director Akhil Sahai highlighted the historical significance of the Swadeshi Movement, inspiring students to shoulder the responsibility of shaping the future of Indian handlooms.
A major highlight of the celebration was the Weaving Demonstration by Mr. Arvind Namdev, a renowned handloom artisan, organized by the Textile Department. The demonstration drew enthusiastic participation from students, offering them hands-on exposure to the craft.
Adding to the spirit of the occasion, faculty, staff, and students adorned themselves in elegant handloom attire, showcasing the beauty and versatility of traditional weaves.
With active involvement from the Campus Academic Coordinator (CAC), faculty, staff, and students, the celebration successfully highlighted the enduring relevance of handlooms in contemporary fashion and culture.
