Doctor Attacked and Robbed on Busy Bhopal Road; Strong Action Demanded

Bhopal: A shocking and deeply concerning incident occurred on one of Bhopal’s busiest roads, near Polytechnic Main Road (around Kilol Park Petrol Pump), between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, where senior government doctor Dr. Manoj Verma was attacked and robbed by unidentified miscreants.

Dr. Verma, an alumnus of Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, is a highly respected and well-behaved medical professional currently serving in government service. He has held key administrative positions, including serving as TB Director (Tuberculosis Director) in government healthcare institutions, and has been continuously contributing to public service. To the best of our knowledge, he has no known disputes or enmity.

Prima facie, the incident appears to be a case of robbery, as his gold bracelet, mobile phone, and wallet were snatched. Notably, the location of the incident is very close to the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s residence and Shyamla Hills Police Station, making it a highly sensitive and busy area. The occurrence of such an incident during peak office hours raises serious concerns about law and order.

Dr. Verma sustained serious injuries in the attack, including a fracture of the hip bone, and is currently admitted for surgical treatment. Considering his age, such an injury may lead to prolonged recovery and temporary inability to serve.

I, Dr. G. K. Agrawal, along with all alumni and currently serving doctors associated with Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, strongly condemn this incident and urge the administration to:

– Identify and apprehend the culprits at the earliest and take strict legal action
– Conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain whether the incident was purely robbery or involved other motives
– Ensure enhanced security measures for doctors and healthcare professionals
– Provide necessary financial assistance to Dr. Manoj Verma

This incident is not just an attack on an individual doctor but raises broader concerns about the safety of the medical community.

We wish Dr. Verma a speedy and full recovery.
